Martin Luther’s translation — the New Testament in 1522, the complete Bible in 1534 — did for German what the KJV did for English: it shaped the language and put Scripture in everyone’s hands.
The 1912 revision modernized the text for the twentieth century and remains the classic public-domain German Bible.
