Angelos simply means messenger — human or heavenly. The New Testament uses it most often for the angels of God: created spiritual beings who carry his messages and do his bidding.

They announce Jesus’ birth, strengthen him in Gethsemane, open prison doors, and praise around his throne. Hebrews calls them “ministering spirits” for the heirs of salvation.
