nâsâʼ · naw-saw' · verb · “to lift, carry, forgive”
Nasa means to lift, carry, or bear — including bearing sin or guilt. The same verb names the carrying of burdens and the gracious lifting away of sin in forgiveness.
Nasa is a versatile verb of carrying — bearing a load, lifting a head, raising a banner. It also names the bearing of sin — both the guilty bearing of one’s own and the merciful bearing-away of forgiveness.
When the LORD “lifts up his countenance” on us in the priestly blessing, the verb is nasa. And when Isaiah 53 says the Servant “bore (nasa) the sin of many,” the same verb gathers the gospel into a single word.
