Yehoshua — Joshua — means "the LORD saves." Moses' successor leads Israel into the land; the New Testament greek form of his name is Iēsous: Jesus.
Yehoshua is composed of YHWH + the verb "to save." It is a name and a confession: salvation belongs to the LORD.
Joshua leads Israel across the Jordan and into the promised land — a foreshadowing of the greater Joshua, Jesus, who leads his people into the true rest.
