דָּוִד
Dâvid · daw-veed' · proper noun · “David”
David — meaning «beloved» — was Israel's great shepherd-king and ancestor of Jesus, the Son of David. The name itself names what he was: beloved.
David's name means «beloved.» He is anointed as a youth from a field of sheep; God says, «I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart.»
His name becomes a title for the Messiah. Jesus is repeatedly called «Son of David» — heir to the throne God promised would last forever. The Lion of the tribe of Judah is the David David could not be.
Definition: David, the youngest son of Jesse
KJV usage: David.
