ἀποκρίνομαι
apokrínomai · verb · “to answer”
Apokrinomai means to answer — used constantly of Jesus' answering questions, often with another question or a story. Jesus is the great responder.
Apokrinomai is the verb of replying. The Gospels open and close with people asking Jesus questions; he apokrinomai — sometimes plainly, often surprisingly, sometimes with silence.
His answers reveal his identity. To the Sanhedrin he answers «I am»; to Pilate he answers «You have said so»; to many he answers with a parable. He responds to us still.
Definition: to conclude for oneself, i.e. (by implication) to respond; by Hebraism (compare H06030) to begin to speak (where an address is expected)
KJV usage: answer
