Greek word · Strong's G5210

ὑμεῖς

hymeîs · pronoun · “you (plural)”

In a sentence

Hymeis is the emphatic «you» — plural — that Jesus uses constantly to address the community of disciples: «You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world.»

Hymeis is the plural you. English flattens this; Jesus did not. «You (plural) are the salt of the earth» means it of his community, not individual believers in isolation.

Many of the New Testament's high callings are addressed to a «you-all»: «you are God's temple,» «you are a chosen race.» The Christian life is plural before it is singular.
