Greek word · Strong's G5207

υἱός

huiós · noun · “son”

In a sentence

Huios means son — and in the New Testament names both Jesus as the unique Son of God and believers as sons adopted into God’s family in him.

Huios names a son — biological, legal, or by adoption. The New Testament uses it for Jesus uniquely (“the Son of God”) and for believers who, through union with him, are adopted into God’s family.

Galatians 4 brings the two together: “Because you are sons (huioi), God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’” Sonship in Christ is the believer’s deepest identity.
