παράκλητος
paráklētos · noun · “helper, advocate (Paraclete)”
Paraklētos means helper, advocate, or comforter — the title Jesus gives to the Holy Spirit, the one called alongside us to plead, comfort, and strengthen.
Paraklētos literally means “one called alongside.” It carries the senses of helper, comforter, counsel, advocate — the kind of person you want by your side in trouble.
Jesus uses it four times in John for the Holy Spirit, who comes to be with the church when Jesus returns to the Father. 1 John uses the same word for Jesus himself as our advocate with the Father. Christians have an Advocate above and an Advocate within.
Definition: an intercessor, consoler
KJV usage: advocate, comforter
