Greek word · Strong's G2198

ζάω

záō · verb · “to live”

In a sentence

Zaō means to live — used of biological life and of the deep life God gives. Jesus says, «I am the living (zaō) one; I died, and behold I am alive forevermore.»

Zaō is the verb behind zōē (life). It runs through the Gospels and letters: «the living God,» «the living Christ,» «the living water.»

Christians are «called to live» by the Spirit, «to no longer live for themselves but for him who died and was raised.» Christianity is a living faith — really, presently alive.
