Greek word · Strong's G2168

εὐχαριστέω

eucharistéō · verb · “to give thanks”

In a sentence

Eucharisteō means to give thanks. From it comes Eucharist — Christian thanksgiving for the bread and the cup. Paul tells believers to give thanks in everything.

Eucharisteō is to give thanks — to God especially. Jesus eucharisteō over the loaves before feeding multitudes; over the bread and cup at the Last Supper, from which «Eucharist» is named.

Paul says «in everything give thanks (eucharisteō), for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.» Thanksgiving is not optional; it is the believer's basic posture.
