δίδωμι

dídōmi · verb · “to give”

In a sentence

Didōmi is the New Testament's everyday verb for giving — from giving alms to giving up the Son. The whole gospel hangs on a divine didōmi.

Didōmi is the basic verb «to give.» It runs through ordinary acts of giving and the supreme acts of God: he «so loved the world that he gave (didōmi) his only Son.»

Jesus «gave (didōmi) himself for our sins.» The Father «gives (didōmi) good gifts to those who ask him.» The simplest word carries the heaviest weight in the New Testament.
