Rum is to be high or exalted. It is both spatial and theological — God’s name is exalted; his hand is lifted up; his throne is high and lifted up.

Used of humans, it can mean wholesome lifting up (the meek are exalted by God) or proud lifting up of one’s own heart, which precedes a fall. True exaltation comes only from God’s hand.
