Dikaios is the adjective “just” or “righteous.” It describes God — “he is faithful and just (dikaios)” — and people who are in right standing with him, whether by their walk or, supremely, by gift.

The great New Testament use is Habakkuk’s line picked up three times by Paul and Hebrews: “the dikaios shall live by faith.” The righteous person, in the end, is the one who trusts God.
