Zion

Originally a hill in Jerusalem, ‘Zion’ becomes a name for the city of God and his dwelling with his people.

Zion was the stronghold David captured, later associated with the temple mount. The psalms sing of it as the city of the great King.

Prophets and the New Testament use ‘Zion’ for God’s people and the heavenly city, the goal of the believer’s hope.
