Scripture

The Bible — the written Word of God, «breathed out» by God through human authors, given to teach, correct, train, and lead us to faith in Christ.

«Scripture» (Greek graphē) literally means «writing.» The New Testament uses it of the Old Testament holy writings, and later of the apostolic writings themselves. Paul says «all Scripture is breathed out by God» (2 Tim 3:16).

Christians confess the Bible as God's own Word — fully human in voice and fully divine in authority. It is the rule of faith and life, sufficient to make us «wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.»
