Pentecost

The Jewish harvest festival fifty days after Passover — and the day God poured out his Spirit on the gathered believers, launching the Christian church.

Pentecost (Greek for «fiftieth») was the Old Testament Feast of Weeks. In Acts 2 it became the day when the Spirit fell on the disciples with the sound of a mighty wind and tongues of fire, and they began to speak in the languages of pilgrims from every nation.

Peter's sermon brought three thousand to faith. The church was born. The day signals the new harvest of God's people from every nation, gathered by the Spirit Jesus had promised.
