Nineveh

The great capital of Assyria that repented at Jonah’s preaching, later judged for its return to violence.

Nineveh was the vast, powerful capital of cruel Assyria. God sent Jonah to warn it, and remarkably, the whole city repented and was spared.

Generations later, the prophet Nahum announced its fall for renewed wickedness. Nineveh shows both God’s mercy and his justice.
