Nicodemus
A Pharisee and member of the Jewish ruling council who came to Jesus by night and heard the words ‘you must be born again.’
Nicodemus appears only in John’s Gospel. A respected teacher of Israel, he visited Jesus secretly at night with honest questions, and Jesus told him no one can see God’s kingdom without being ‘born again’ (John 3).
He later cautioned the council to give Jesus a fair hearing (John 7:50–51) and helped bury Jesus with about seventy-five pounds of spices (John 19:39), suggesting his quiet curiosity grew into devotion.
