Mount Zion
The hill in Jerusalem on which the temple stood — and, by extension, a name for the city itself, the people of God, and the heavenly city to come.
Zion was originally the Jebusite stronghold David captured. Solomon's temple stood on Mount Moriah nearby, and the name expanded to embrace the whole city.
In the Psalms and Prophets, Zion is God's chosen dwelling and the focus of his promises to his people.
Hebrews 12 calls believers heirs of Mount Zion, the heavenly Jerusalem — joining the city of the living God by faith in Jesus.
