Messiah
‘Anointed One’ (Greek: Christ)—the promised deliverer-king of Israel, whom Christians identify as Jesus.
The Old Testament foretold an anointed king from David’s line who would rule in righteousness and bring God’s salvation. ‘Messiah’ and ‘Christ’ both mean ‘anointed one.’
Christians believe Jesus is this promised Messiah, though he came first not as a conquering king but as a suffering servant who would return in glory.
