Mark

Author of the second Gospel — a young companion of Peter and Paul whose action-packed account is the briefest and likely earliest of the four Gospels.

Mark (also called John Mark) was the cousin of Barnabas. He started Paul's first missionary journey but turned back. Later he made the most of a second chance, becoming useful to Paul again and a close companion of Peter.

Tradition holds that his Gospel records Peter's preaching about Jesus. Its breathless style («immediately» appears more than forty times) captures the rapid action of Jesus' ministry.
