Judah (son of Jacob)

The fourth son of Jacob, head of the tribe through which Jesus came — and the brother who offered himself in place of Benjamin in Joseph's story.

Judah's tribe became dominant in the south, and David came from his line. Jesus is "the Lion of the tribe of Judah."

In Genesis 44, Judah offered himself as a slave in place of Benjamin — a foreshadow of the substitutionary love of Christ.

Jacob's blessing said "the scepter shall not depart from Judah" — a prophecy that found its fulfillment in Jesus the King.
