James (son of Zebedee)
A fisherman and one of Jesus’ inner three disciples, the first apostle to be martyred.
With his brother John, James left his nets to follow Jesus and was part of the inner circle present at the transfiguration and in Gethsemane.
He was put to death by Herod, becoming the first of the apostles to die for his faith.
