Isaiah
The 8th-century prophet of Judah whose book towers over the Old Testament — calling kings to repentance and proclaiming the Servant who would suffer for our sins.
Isaiah ministered for decades in Jerusalem, advising kings like Ahaz and Hezekiah and warning of Assyrian and Babylonian threats. His prophecies thunder against injustice and idolatry but glow with promise — a Messiah, a new creation, light to the nations.
His Servant Songs (especially Isaiah 53) are among the clearest Old Testament portraits of Jesus' atoning death. The Gospels quote Isaiah more than any other prophet; Christians have called him «the fifth Gospel.»
