Angel
A «messenger» — a created spiritual being who serves God by bringing his word, protecting his people, and worshiping him around his throne.
The Hebrew malak and Greek angelos both mean «messenger.» Most often the Bible uses them for heavenly messengers — angels — who carry God's word, protect his people, and praise him around his throne.
Angels appear at every great moment of God's saving work: at Sinai, in announcing Jesus' birth, strengthening him in Gethsemane, at the empty tomb, and at the ascension. The Bible firmly forbids worshiping them; they point past themselves to God.
