Proverbs 11:25
“A generous soul will prosper, and he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”
Proverbs 11:25 observes that a generous person prospers and the one who refreshes others is himself refreshed — a principle that open-handed giving returns blessing to the giver.
The proverb states a pattern woven into God’s world: generosity tends to enrich, not empty, the giver. The one who “waters” others is “watered” in turn. This is wisdom literature describing how life generally works under God’s ordering, not a mechanical guarantee of financial return.
The New Testament echoes the theme — “God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7) — and locates the reward chiefly in God Himself, who supplies the giver. The refreshment promised is fuller than money: joy, relationships, and the flourishing that comes from a liberal, trusting heart.
Does Proverbs 11:25 promise I’ll get rich by giving?
